Humanity United Action applauds House passage of the Corporate Transparency Act

Washington, DC—This week, the United States House of Representatives passed H.R. 2513, the Corporate Transparency Act. This bipartisan legislation, led by Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Representative Peter King (R-NY), and Representative Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), mandates that when a company is formed, that company must disclose who is its beneficial owner. This gives law enforcement a critical tool in the fight against human trafficking. Evidence shows that human traffickers, along with other bad actors, are adept at using shell companies to mask their criminal activities and evade investigation. By requiring disclosure of the individual or individuals actually benefiting from a business, law enforcement is better equipped to track the money flow from illicit businesses and identify the people profiting from human trafficking.

Humanity United Action applauds the work of Representatives Maloney, King, and Malinowski, and calls on the Senate also pass this important legislation.
